Preschool &
Junior Kindergarten

For over 40 years, the Kalamazoo Country Day Preschool has provided guided, hands-on activities that foster curiosity, build a lifelong love for learning, and create meaningful and developmentally appropriate bridges to academic and social-emotional growth. Each day at KCDS holds opportunities to explore through indoor and outdoor play that integrates math, literacy, social studies and science. Small class sizes, academic differentiation and flexible themed units allow even the youngest of learners  to  guide  their  own  education.

What We Offer

Our Preschool and Junior Kindergarten program offers a balance combination of academics, play, and structure to give children a positive first school experience and prepare your child for kindergarten success.

Social/Emotional

We believe the social/emotional stage is one of the most important stages of a child's development. It is the stage where children learn to become independent, confident and self-controlled. Our experienced teachers create an environment where children can learn how to make friends, engage in group interactions and follow rules with respect for themselves and others. Our program is designed to help children develop the skills necessary to navigate the world around them.

Physical

At KCDS, we understand the importance of helping children develop their motor skills, both large and small. Our physical stage is designed to aid in that development, while also providing opportunities for fun and exploration. Children can climb, jump, and maneuver through the equipment in a safe and supervised environment.

Cognitive

At Kalamazoo Country Day School, we understand the importance of cognitive development in young children. That’s why we provide an environment that promotes thinking skills at an early age. Our teachers are trained to guide children in exploring their environment, asking questions and solving problems. We believe that children who develop critical thinking skills at a young age are better prepared for their academic and social future.

Language

Our Language Stage program is specifically designed to help children develop their communication skills. We believe that effective communication is key to success in all areas of life. Our program focuses on helping children recognize and use various forms of print, as well as practicing active listening and participation in conversations. We promote a love of learning by providing stimulating activities and materials that foster creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking.

Testimonials

As parents of two children attending KCDS, we cannot express enough how pleased we are with the education and environment that our daughters have been experiencing. The small class sizes have been a perfect fit for our family. We appreciate how the teachers have been able to develop a deep understanding of each of our daughters as individuals, and tailor their learning experiences to work best for them. We feel confident each day that our children are getting a great education in a safe and nurturing environment, and would recommend KCDS to any family looking for a high-quality education for their children.

It is SO obvious that every single one of your PK teachers and aftercare staff are passionate about what they do. Their ability to meet students' social-emotional needs are amazing! I know from experience it can sometimes be overwhelming when there are a plethora of needs to be met, but these teachers are killing it with SO MUCH grace and empathy for their students. It makes a world of difference for me as a parent to know that my daughter is so loved and supported while we have to be away from each other.
