Special Events
Sherman Lake
Each year at Sherman Lake Outdoor Center, the middle schoolers have a blast! Sherman Lake Outdoor Center has four very important principles: honesty, caring, respect and responsibility. Kalamazoo Country Day School students follow these rules extremely well. There are lots of activities, including rafters, climbing wall, orienteering, teamwork games, swimming and camp songs.
The rafters are a series of wires, balance beams and ropes. They are about 23 feet above the ground in the gym rafters. In the rafters, students walk across cables and bridges with the assistance of various ropes and wires. To get to the rafters, students must climb a huge cargo net. Most students agree that the rafters are nerve-racking but fun.
Dances
Kalamazoo Country Day School hosts many dances throughout the year. The dances are sponsored by the Student Council.
Ice Skating Party
Each year Kalamazoo Country Day School has an ice skating party at Wings Stadium. This event is lots of fun and occurs on the last day of school before holiday break.
Day of the Dead Festival
Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday that is celebrated annually from October 31st - November 2nd. Families observe this holiday as a chance to remember and honor the dead. Preparations for Dia de los Muertos often begin months in advance. Families celebrate by cooking special foods, building altars in their homes, and visiting the graveyard together. Students learn about and celebrate this holiday in Spanish class each year during this time. They help build an altar in the classroom and decorate the room with colorful skeleton art. Middle School students mold and decorate sugar skulls, a popular treat in Mexico during Day of the Dead.
Halloween Carnival
Each year at Kalamazoo Country Day School, Halloween is celebrated with a family carnival late in October. The carnival includes games, prizes, food and even a haunted house! Funds raised at the carnival help to supplement classroom budgets and pay for printing of our monthly newsletter.
The Eighth Grade Trip
At the end of each school year, the eighth grade students take a trip. It is financed by fundraising done by the eighth graders. These fundraisers include a wrapping paper sale, a Halloween Carnival, a popcorn and cookie dough sale, and a holiday flower sale.
Concerts
Kalamazoo Country Day School has two concerts during the year, the Winter Concert and Spring Concert.
