Nancy Alexander
Hello, I'm Mrs. Alexander. I am the art teacher at Country Day and I teach art to kindergarten through 8th grade. I have been teaching at KCDS since 1999. I believe that everyone can do art and enjoy making art. It is my joy to watch a person learn and develop their art skills at every level. I have previously taught art in the Grand Rapids Public Schools and for art education classes at Western Michigan University.
When I was a child I lived in St. Ignace, Newberry, Holland and Grand Rapids, Mich. I went to Creston High School in Grand Rapids, where I became interested in art. I attended Western Michigan University for my bachelor's and master's degrees. My majors were textiles and art history.
In my free time I like to weave. Currently my four-harness loom is ready for me to weave some rag rugs for our home. My husband and I are renovating our house, which takes up a lot of our time. The latest renovation is to convert an old porch into an art studio. We have a daughter who is in high school and a cat whose name is Flip. I also enjoy gardening. In the summer we grow our veggies in containers on the flat roof of our garage to keep the wild animals from eating our crop.
